Concrete Driveways in Brainerd & the Lakes Area, MN

Driveway tear-out and replacement, new pours, and garage aprons — built on a solid base to handle frost, snowmelt, and road salt.

Most driveways we're called out to aren't new builds — they're old concrete that's cracked, heaved, or sinking toward the garage. Beach Construction tears out failed driveways across the Brainerd Lakes Area and pours replacements built for what Minnesota does to concrete: frost, snowmelt, and road salt from October through April.

Driveway tear-out and replacement

When a driveway is broken up, heaved, or settling, patching it only buys a season or two. The fix is to remove it and find out why it failed. We break out and haul away the old concrete, dig out soft or wet soil, rebuild and compact the base, and pour a new driveway on ground that won't move under it.

  • Tear-out and haul-away — the old slab is removed and the site cleaned up, not buried.
  • Base rebuilt — most failures start underneath. A soft or thin base is what lets frost heave a slab.
  • Drainage fixed — water that runs toward the garage or pools on the slab gets sloped away.
  • Control joints cut — so the concrete cracks where we plan it, not across the middle.

New driveways and garage aprons

Building new, or going from gravel to concrete? We pour new driveways, garage aprons, and approaches for homes, lake cabins, and shops — including long rural driveways out to pole barns and outbuildings. The prep is the same as a replacement: base first, then forms, then the pour.

Built for Brainerd-area winters

A driveway here goes through dozens of freeze-thaw cycles a year and gets salt tracked onto it all winter. What decides whether it lasts is the work you can't see once it's poured — the base, the slope, the joints, and how it's finished and cured. That's where we put the time.

Cracked, but not ready to replace?

Not every crack means a new driveway. If the slab is still level and solid, we can fill and seal the cracks to keep water out before freeze-thaw makes them worse. If it's heaved, sunken, or broken into pieces, we'll tell you straight that replacement is the real fix. We don't do slab leveling or mudjacking.

What does a concrete driveway cost?

It depends on the size, whether an old driveway has to come out first, how much base work the site needs, and access for the trucks. Prices you see online are usually Twin Cities numbers and don't account for your site. We come out, measure, look at the ground, and give you a clear written quote — no guessing over the phone and no surprise fees on pour day.

Driveway questions

How long before I can drive on a new concrete driveway?

Foot traffic is usually fine after a day or two, and cars typically after about a week. Heavier vehicles should wait longer. We'll give you the exact timeline for your pour.

Should I replace my driveway or just fix the cracks?

If the concrete is level and the cracks are small, crack filling and sealing makes sense. If sections have heaved, sunk, or broken apart, the base underneath has failed — replacing the driveway is the only fix that lasts.

Concrete or asphalt for a Minnesota driveway?

Concrete costs more up front but holds its shape and doesn't need resealing every few years the way asphalt does. With a proper base and joints, it handles Minnesota frost well. We're happy to talk through which makes sense for your property.

When can you pour?

Concrete can't go on frozen ground, so most driveways are poured spring through fall. Late-season pours need extra care to cure before the freeze — if you want a driveway in before winter, call early.
